A traditional and essential instrument for preparing Matcha, the chasen is a piece carved from a single piece of bamboo, used to whisk green tea powder into a small amount of water. With a quick back-and-forth motion, the beaten tea takes the form of a fine emulsion, as found in the Japanese tea ceremony: chanoyu.
