This small, typically boreal bud, the flowering top of sweet fern, generally grows in blueberry fields, so much so that it is considered the "weed" of blueberries! Like the small star berry of Saguenay Lac Saint Jean, it generally grows on soils that have recently burned. With its taste reminiscent of cloves, cinnamon, or even honey, pine spikenard goes well with both savory and sweet dishes. A must-have!
